Different Types of Novels I’d Like to Write One Day

I have an Excel spread sheet filled with, and I’m not exaggerating here, close to seven hundred ideas for future novels. Yes, my novel ideas are in the triple digits. And while most of them are contemporary romance plots, some are not.

So I thought I’d go over some of the books I’d like to write one day that don’t fall into the contemporary romance category.

Holiday anthology

I really want to write an anthology with three novellas set around Halloween, Thanksgiving, then Christmas. I’ve yet to write an holiday-themed book, so I think this would be really fun.

New adult series

I’ve read quite a few new adult romances over the years, and to be honest, none have captured my attention all that much. The characters always act so young, which is the point, I know, but I’d like to write a series about college students who act at least somewhat mature most of the time.

Paranormal romance

Though I’m not normally in the mood to read about vampires and werewolves and aliens falling in love, every so often I pick up a paranormal romance. I actually have a plot idea for one that really intrigues me, and maybe one day I’ll get around to writing it.

Rom Com

Romantic comedies are all the rage right now in the world of romance and I believe I have the chops to pull one off. I just have to come up with the right plot.

Historical romance set in Regency times

My second favorite sub-genre of romance after contemporary is historical. I have read so many historical romances over the years, and I’ve even come up with a few plot ideas for some. I’m just very intimidated by all the research I’ll have to do to get all the little details right.

Historical romance set in Phoenix a year or two after Arizona became a state

Once again, my fear of research is holding me back here. I’d love to write a book set back when my home state was still the Wild West, but there are so many things I’d have to fact check that it’s a little overwhelming.

I’ll probably ad more to this list at some point, but for right now, these are the main ones.
