A Look Back at 2023

2023 has been an amazing year for me.

Not only did I self-publish my first book, but I then went on to publish my second and third as well (I kind of had to, since it’s a three book series).

In addition to dipping my toe into the self-publishing world, I also wrote my first ever long series. Up until this year, the longest series I ever wrote had four books in it. This year, I decided to write a longer one, and I wrote ten. Yes, ten. Was my brain mush by the time the words The End were written on the last book? You betcha. But it was thrilling to challenge myself and rise up to the challenge.

Here are some other stats from my year:

I wrote 612,094 words.

I edited 15 books.

I honestly can’t believe that I wrote over six hundred thousand words this year. I can’t wrap my mind around such a high number.

So, why am I bragging about all my accomplishments?

Because it’s important! I’m the kind of person who always looks ahead. Who’s always thinking about my next project. I rarely, if ever, stop and congratulate myself after finishing a first draft or a second or third. I’m too busy focusing on what’s coming up. I realized it’s important to stop and take a second to savor that sweet, sweet moment of finishing.

Because not everyone does finish.

A lot of writers start a project and don’t finish it because life gets in the way.

I think it’s healthy to reflect at the end of the year on all your accomplishments, and I plan to do that from now on.

I can’t wait to find out what 2024 has in store for me!

Goodbye, 2023. You’ve been real.
